Nordic Blockchain Conference comes to Stockholm
The eighth edition of the Nordic Blockchain Conference (NBC) is coming to Stockholm on 26th and 27th May 2026.
Stockholm, April 4, 2026 – The 8th edition of the Nordic Blockchain Conference (NBC) is set to take place on May 26 - 27th, 2026, at the Epicenter in Stockholm, Sweden. Organized by the not-for-profit organisation, The Nordic Blockchain Association (NBA), the event may be the largest blockchain and Web3 gathering in the Nordic region, attracting over 1,200 delegates and featuring more than 100 industry-leading speakers.
The timing of the Nordic Blockchain Conference 2026 in Stockholm is particularly noteworthy, coming soon after discussions with the Swedish FSA about stablecoins.
As the Swedish Central Bank (Riksbank) website helpfully explains, “The MiCA Regulation divides stablecoins into two types. The first, e-money tokens (EMTs), are stablecoins that aim to maintain a stable value in relation to a single national currency, such as the US dollar. This is the largest group of stablecoins. The second type,asset-referenced tokens (ARTs) are stablecoins that aim to maintain a stable value in relation to an asset or a basket of assets rather than a single national currency. This basket of assets can include commodities such as gold, several national currencies or other crypto-assets.”
Riksbank Governor Erik Thedeen has previously publicly stated that Bitcoin has no place in Sweden's financial system, describing it as an instrument based on pure speculation and citing the collapse of crypto exchanges as evidence of its instability, “"It is an instrument that is completely impossible to value and we do not want to bring it into the Swedish financial sector,"
Thedeen’s position contrasts with that of politicians in Sweden that realise the importance of Sweden maintaining its’ position in the funds industry through the adoption of the latest technologies in finance. The geopolitical implications of stablecoins can also not be understated, with a race underway to capture the digital wallet economy of global citizens.
